Master Systems Integrator (MSI) – a role that’s more critical than ever

News & Events

The rise of the MSI has been a positive evolution and a true transformation across the BMS sector, promising a brighter, more sustainable future.

The MSI role focuses on understanding and overseeing the integration of building systems into a consolidated operational solution. This includes data integration and, importantly, creating value-added services for clients and occupants, enhancing their experience.

Before the evolution of the MSI role, the various components within a building often operated in a siloed capacity; advances in products and services are providing a foundation for innovation moving forward.

The need for consistent, real-time, and automated operational reporting to meet UK regulatory standards and best practices has led many to look at third-party software solutions. Understanding this product space and integrating third-party solutions is now vital to being an actual MSI.

At Global Associates, we operate at the vanguard of the data, reporting, and insights space of the BMS domain. We are seeing an increasing need for clients to comply with regulation and reporting standards and use this opportunity to drive increased value within their business and across their clients.

Clear, accurate, and transparent reporting of energy and carbon emissions is the baseline from which insights shape energy reduction projects and offer enhanced business value creation opportunities. For example, we are seeing clients transform their retail and entertainment spaces, driving revenue growth and increasing customer and client satisfaction, all achieved by leveraging their built estate and its usage.

‘Commercial buildings currently represent 23% of the built environment carbon emissions in the UK.  Securing a net-zero built environment in line with the Paris Agreement cannot be achieved without addressing the operational emissions associated with this sector.’ – UKGBC Commercial Retrofit report(2).

As highlighted in the McKinsey report ‘Building value by decarbonising the built environment’(1), it’s not about individual pieces of technology or solutions; instead, it’s about an ecosystem of products and services that successfully deliver positive outcomes.

The key to that success is the role of an MSI, which is to craft and deliver lasting value.
